About me: Hello, my name is Debbie Southern and I have lived in Woodhall Park, Swindon with my husband Gary (also a registered childminder) and our daughter since 1997. Our home is detached, situated at the end of a quiet cul-de-sac in which the children, when of age, can play in safety. Until then, the large back garden is kept in a secure and safe condition. The house has a non smoking environment and we do not have any pets.
I am a professional person and like to put the needs of your child first. I operate policies to enhance your child’s mind, behaviour and understanding and consider “Continuity of Care” a priority.
My aim is to provide a stimulating, happy environment with a family atmosphere and for children of all ages to grow and develop through play and by having fun. Children are involved and immersed in a home atmosphere where care and learning merge in a fun, loving and caring environment.
To ensure that activities are varied and interesting for all ages, which will enhance their development, I have a varied range of toys and equipment, both inside and outside that are designed for all ages. This is constantly reviewed and new ideas are introduced as required and to assist in this we have access to various Toy Libraries, Libraries and the Swindon Scrapstore.
The play area is not restricted to inside or outside and we operate a free flow system allowing children freedom to choose where they would like to play. Some of the equipment available and activities on offer are:
Army & Forts,
Arts and Crafts,
Books – Reading/Story Telling/Writing,
Cards & Domino’s,
Construction Toys – Bob the Builder/Duplo/Lego/Magnetics/Mobilo/Stickle Bricks/Tools,
Dance and Movement,
Dolls – Buggies/Food/Highchairs,
Little People – Action Man/Bob the Building/Bratz/Happyland/Polly Pocket,
Messy play i.e. paint/playdough/gluing/gloop,
Music and Instruments,
Outside Play – Ball Pit/Bats & Balls/Climbing Equipment/Playhouse/Push a longs/Roller Blades/Skateboards/Slide,
Role Play & Dressing Up,

Tents & Tunnels,
Transport – Buses/Cars/Diggers/Large Machines/Mini Machines,
**Electrical – Computer/DVD/Game Boys/Playstation/Sky/TV/Wii/Xbox (note that the use of these are time restricted and supervised).
All toys are age appropriate, in good clean condition and checked regularly.
I have lots of trips out to shops, libraries, play groups, picnics, exploring parks, walks, farms, museums, cinema, soft play, beach, swimming (Gary holds an ASA Level 1 Swimming Teachers certificate) and lots more. I always involve the children to choose what they like to do and help us plan our week.
In the school holidays a planner is provided showing our plans for the weeks ahead, an option for hot and cold days is given, along with requirements from the parents to make them safe and successful.
I firmly believe that a contract will be successful when you, the parent, and I work closely together. I strive to make my business flexible and transparent with open and honest communication.
The service that I provide is based on what I would demand and expect should I be the one seeking childcare for my child. My aims are to be inclusive, understanding and professional and that my service is tailored to suit your needs.
All families are welcomed into the warm, fun atmosphere by everyone in my family.
I cover all ages from birth to teens.
