Fanny Bernard-Healy is a La Jolie Ronde licensee in Ireland. Read her inspirational success story below.

Name: Fanny Healy-Bernard
Location: Cloughjordan, County Tipperary
Family: My son is 18 months and Baby No. 2 on the way!

What is your background?
I am a French native and have lived in the UK for several years and moved to Ireland in September 2007. I have a marketing background and prior to having my first child worked for a leading market research company. I initially set up my business in the UK very successfully before moving to Ireland where I started the process again! In total I have been teaching La Jolie Ronde for 5 years.

Was there a reason you went back to work?
Apart from the financial benefits, I wanted to do something that was totally flexible rather than full time work but wasn't sure what...I also missed the social side of things.

How did you go about finding a family-friendly job?
I was browsing the typical "mums type" websites and had seen La Jolie Ronde were expanding and when a friend started her own business and told me how easy it was to slot into everyday life... I decided to go for it!

How often do you work?
I work 12 hours per week. I have classes in 3 schools and one open center where I hire the Community hall of the Town. I teach after school, which gives me all my mornings with my son. Then, I take him to the creche for a couple of hours while I am setting up my classes and teaching. From experience, to avoid any last minute stress I plan all my lessons, print or photocopy my material at the latest the night before. This system really works for me and gives me the Family/home/work balance I was looking for!

How much did your La Jolie Ronde Franchise cost you?
It was really reasonable compared to some business opportunities. In total I paid under 668 euros with a 167 euros refundable bond (approx under £600 plus £150 refundable bond). I also paid in instalments which made it much easier.

What did that investment buy?
Gosh lots of things. As well as the year's teaching license, it included each venues group insurance, a full comprehensive marketing pack that I call my bible!, lots of course materials, advertising on the La Jolie Ronde website, my own personal email address. I also received hundreds of leaflets and posters to advertise my classes locally, cover letters that I can send out to schools and parents, taster session packs and training on the methodology with a certificate on completion of the training and access to the support team.

Do you get good support and training from the La Jolie Ronde Head Office?
Absolutely, their support is invaluable and extremely professional. Whenever I call there is always someone to give their help, advice and support. Nothing ever seems too much trouble. Even in the Summer when I decided to hold Summer activity classes I was sent lots of suggestions, posters, leaflets to advertise all free of charge.

Do you advertise your classes?
Initially yes I used the posters and leaflets that Head Office provided and advertised everywhere from the doctors surgery, local schools to the nearby leisure centre. I also had guidance on making contact with my local newspapers who were more than happy to feature a piece on my up and coming business.

What is the best thing about La Jolie Ronde for you? Why are they different?
Oh by far it's definitely the flexibility it offers, I can genuinely fit my classes around home life and family commitments. I also love the course I teach, it's so much fun and entertaining and La Jolie Ronde are always striving to improve whenever and wherever they can. Initially when I first started I was also able to pay in instalments and didn't pay my final payment until I had classes up and running. The team is so helpful and supportive even after 5 years of teaching they are always at the other end of the phone.

Would you recommend becoming a La Jolie Ronde Licensee to other mums?
Absolutely...if you want to work full or part time the options are genuinely there. You really are your own boss and can therefore set your own working hours. As well as the financial reward it is so satisfying see the children progress through the programme and talk French even after 10 weeks.

If you know someone who would like to teach French/Spanish, please contact La Jolie Ronde by calling 01949 839715 Option 2 or email and pass on your friends contact details.
