St. Swithin Activities for Children

Christian Feast Day - 15th July

In 852 Swithin was made Bishop of Winchester, a position he held until his death in 862. Saint Swithin is still seen as the patron of Winchester Cathedral, and his tomb can be found inside the Cathedral. As the old rhyme (see our Old English poem) goes:

St. Swithin's Day if thou dost rain
For forty das it will remain
St. Swithin's Day if thou be fair
For forty days 'twill rain nae mare

So we always hope for a sunny St. Swithin's Day!
