Beltane

Welcome to our Beltane section on iChild!

Beltane is a Pagan celebration to celebrate the coming of summer. It is celebrated on 1st May, which Pagans believe is the first day of summer. (This is why the June summer solstice is called "midsummer".)

It is a festival which celebrates romance and fertility. The hawthorn flower is an important Beltane symbol and Maypole dancing is a popular activity. Today this is also celebrated as May Day. All May Day traditions have their roots in Beltane.
