Mother's Day Activities for Children

Welcome to our Mother's Day section on iChild!

We celebrate Mother’s Day, or Mothering Sunday, on the fourth Sunday of Lent. In the olden days, people used to return to their home or ‘mother church’ once a year, and servants were given the day off to visit their families. This tradition became a time for children to honour their mothers, and has evolved into the celebrations we enjoy today.
In the USA, Mother's Day is the second Sunday in May. After the American Civil War, some American women campaigned for a 'mother's day of peace', and in 1914, President Woodrow Wilson set the date. In many other parts of the world, Mother’s Day is also celebrated in May.
