GoldFiction: The Titanic Narrative

This resource has been produced in collaboration with the National Association for the Teaching of English (NATE). The Teaching Sequence for Writing is still the recommended approach to the teaching of reading and writing. The Titanic Narrative sets the scene of life at the time before presenting the fictional story for the children to ‘read as a reader’, and engage with the story. Children will then analyse how the author has created responses, ‘reading as a writer’. There are a series of exercises, which will lead to children having a go at their own creative writing.

This resource can be easily adapted to the needs of your class, and can cover several lessons. It comprises of: a PDF file, which indexes the accompanying PowerPoint and provides simple worksheets; the PowerPoint presentation (the main body of the resource); and a Word document, featuring a printable copy of the Titanic Narrative.

The original illustrations are supplied by kind permission of Stella Perrett, Radical Cartoons. The links within the resources were correct at the time of publication (October 2022).
